PRESERVING OUR PERSONAL STORIES

Oh, why hello! It’s been a rather long time, hasn’t it? I suppose it’s appropriate that my last musings were about a balancing act, about finding time to finesse various facets of my business amidst the beautiful mess of motherhood. Because now I’m so behind on the blog that I’m writing about sessions I photographed last July. But on the bright side—I’m writing—and the baby is napping. So…win for mama!

A BALANCING ACT

Five months of juggling motherhood and entrepreneurship has taught me a lot of things, not the least of which is that there will be days when not a thing gets crossed off my professional checklist. Today has felt like one of those days—although if that was actually the case, this blog post would, admittedly, not exist. Some days, my little love will bounce away in his favorite chair and babble for the sake of hearing his own voice; he’ll nap on schedule and beam at me when we make eye contact. A TOAST TO POSSIBILITIES

Oh, 2014. You were an epic year, truly, both personally and professionally. Within the span of your sweet seasons, I grew a mama’s heart, a beautiful baby boy, and a fulfilling business. As I write this first blog of the year following your abundant beauty, I admit I do so with a touch of nostalgia, wondering if it’s possible to see another year filled with such richness. Yet, even as I write these words, I am energized by all the potential, conscious of the near perfection that is surrounding me, just five days into this new year: here I sit with my cup of tea, baby giggling in the background, warm afternoon sunlight on my shoulders, as I pursue this little dream of mine. Not a bad start. So, here’s a toast to the possibilities, to a promising dawn to a new year.

MEAGHAN + CHRIS: AN EASTERN SHORE WEDDING

There’s something really beautiful about unconventional, intimate weddings. They’re less cookie-cutter, more focused on the details, more tightly knit. When Meaghan and Chris described their vision for their small, September wedding on the Eastern Shore, I knew it was an affair I wouldn’t want to miss—even though my newborn would be only three weeks old at the time.

So, camera in one hand and pump in the other, I made my way to the serene, waterfront property where the couple was getting ready. Right away, I could feel the sense of family that resonated among the guests, and despite having been hired to document the occasion, I was made to feel like kin. I was grateful to spend my first several hours away from my son with such a lovely crowd.
