HOW I SEE (THE REST OF THE TIME)

It rained here last night. A quiet, almost imperceptible rain, the kind one might believe to have dreamt up if not for having smelled its faint fragrance in the air the next morning. It was one of the gentler things I’ve encountered in a long time, certainly more so than the roaring mopeds and the crash of the surf on the Mediterranean. It reminded me more of my baby’s breath as he sleeps: sometimes so still I may lean closer just to ensure it remains constant. Its fragility was sweet and reassuring, a beautiful reminder to stop and listen — that that which is loudest is very rarely the most important.

LIZ + TOM: A RAINY MARYLAND WEDDING

Their love is simple and straight-forward—connection in its purest form. You can see it when they look at each other: there’s something unspoken, but unmistakable, a quiet respect and tenderness. And it spreads beyond them, to their family, their friends; Liz and Tom are surrounded by community. It was an honor witness when they wed, and even more so to tell their story today with these images.

RECOLLECTIONS OF SUMMER

It’s a beautiful morning in DC: the sun is pouring in our windows and the city’s trees are swollen with lush, pink blooms, leaving a faint fragrance to perfume the air.  As my son sleeps soundly in the next room, it strikes me as an ideal time to look back on a lovely evening session I did last summer at the National Gallery of Art that seems especially “DC” to me.
